Hledal jsem mnoho týdnů dokonalý záběr východu slunce na Havaji a jakmile jsem dorazil na pláž Koki, věděl jsem, že jsem ho našel. Vzdálený ostrov siluetou na obzoru a tvary a textury sopečných kamenů na pobřeží mi poskytly dramatické prostředí pro neuvěřitelný tropický východ slunce, který se předemnou rýsoval. Postavil jsem stativ co nejblíže k okraji vody a použil velmi nízký úhel kamery, abych se mohl skutečně stát součástí scény. Brzy ráno oceán nabírá namodralý nádech a síla tohoto záběru spočívá ve třech odlišných odstínech – obloze, moři a popředí. Růžové tóny východu slunce osvětlovaly mraky zespodu, a jak příliv a odliv ustupovaly, převalovaly se přes kameny, dlouhá expozice proměnila vlny ve vířící přikrývku mlhy.
