Shooting any landscape requires patience – but shooting a mass of wildly swaying poppies while attempting to keep your image sharp requires true dedication! In order to keep clarity throughout, I needed to shoot at a one second exposure, and I shot roll after roll of these wildflowers only to be defeated by persistent winds. But my patience eventually paid off - in a rare still moment, the poppies leaned in towards my camera for just a second, allowing me this perfect composition. As it turns out, these flowers thrive in the prevailing desert winds, and owe their striking appearance and numbers to the very source of my photographic frustration.
