I searched the entire coastline of Maui, every cove, every beach - for that magic image to say “Maui.” As I hiked to this lookout at Hamoa beach I knew this was it. Lush tropical foliage in the foreground as swaying palms cast their shadows on the golden sands. I watched the waves caress the shores and took a series of exposures to capture the balmy mood. I also choose this image for my Maui book cover.
