Aiemmin ajatellessani tulivuoria mieleeni tulivat korkeat huiput ja mahtavat maisemat. Ikään kuin varoittaakseen minua uhkaavasta vaarasta 3000 asteen kuumuudella ja rikin tuoksulla ilmassa, Äiti Luonto antoi minulle tämän ohikiitävän vilauksen raivoavan tulivuoren voiman lähteeseen. Ammuin nopeasti sarjan kuvia työntäen itseni ja varusteeni äärimmilleen. Kun en enää kestänyt kuumuutta hetkeäkään kauemmin, pysähdyin ja siirryin pois 25 mailia tunnissa liikkuvasta laavavirrasta. Myöhemmin tämä ikkuna tulivuoren sydämeen sulkeutui, eikä sitä enää koskaan nähty. Minulle oli annettu ajoituksen lahja. En halunnut vaarantaa varusteitani tai loppua kuvausmatkastani jäämällä paikoilleni pidemmäksi aikaa.
