I spent an enormous amount of time studying the light in Yosemite and I began to really feel in tune with the spirit of the area. It is such an amazing location to shoot, and you can’t help but feel in awe of Mother Nature’s majesty and power. As I set up for this shot, storm clouds were beginning to roll in and I knew that I would be in for something very special. I shot off several rolls of film using angry skies as a backdrop, then suddenly without warning, the churning clouds opened up. A shaft of sun burst through and angled on to the imposing form of Half Dome. As it reflected off her chiselled face it illuminated the entire valley in a gorgeous golden glow.
