September 30, 2009–the first snowfall of the season on the peaks of Mount Baker. Just the previous day, the sun was shining and there was not a snowflake on the mountain. I parked the camper for the night and set the alarm for sunrise. When I arrived, I was completely floored! I thought I was in a different place for a minute. My heart raced as I grabbed my gear and hiked under twilight up to the shores of this enchanted lake. Moments before taking this shot, the sun peaked through the clouds and gently lit the edge of the ridge. This was the magic touch that made this shot! It was just incredible how much Mother Nature can change overnight, creating this silent scene broken only by the sound of my shutter.

The way the snow clings to the peaks in this shot is just stunning, and looking at it makes me feel like I'm right there on that crisp September morning. The contrast between the bright sky and the fresh white powder is exactly what I wanted to capture the season's start.

Grace ★★★★★

It captures that perfect moment right when the first snow dusts the peaks, and the contrast against the still-warm autumn rock feels almost alive. The detail in the snow texture is sharp enough that I can practically feel the cold air.

The way the snow catches the light in this shot is unreal—it looks completely different depending on the time of day you view it. I keep noticing new details in the ridgelines and shadowed crevices every time I walk past it. It’s a stunning piece that captures that crisp, quiet moment right before w
