하와이 할레아칼라
만년 화산의 정상에 서니, 불과 몇 시간 전에 떠나온 라하이나의 바닷가와는 너무나 대조적이었습니다. 기온 변화가 심해서 마치 달에 온 것 같았습니다. 이 놀라운 은검 선인장은 맨 바위에서 솟아오르며 이 화산에서만 발견됩니다. 해가 지면서 바람이 거세지고 계곡에는 구름이 소용돌이쳤습니다. 선인장은 마치 손으로 조각한 듯 멋진 모양이었습니다. 셔터를 누르는 순간, 그 풍경 전체가 그림처럼 보였습니다. 구름이 스쳐 지나가며 흐릿하게 보이는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 나는 산을 내려와 현실로 돌아왔습니다.
The temperature swing from the Lahaina coast to that windy 10,000-foot summit hit me like a wall, but the view of the volcanic crater below made every shiver worth it. I've never felt so small and so connected to the landscape at the same time.
Standing up there, watching the sun burn through the clouds over the volcano rim, I completely forgot I was on a tropical island. The description really nails that stark contrast from the ocean shore, and the cold wind at that elevation was a shock to the system. This one’s a keeper.
The 10,000-foot peak really captures that stark, moonlike landscape—nothing like the green coastline I left behind in Lahaina that same morning. Standing there with the wind biting through my jacket, it honestly felt like two different worlds in one day.
