콜로라도 로키산맥의 단풍은 절정을 막 지나고 있었고, 예상했던 것과는 다른 스타일의 사진을 찍어야만 했습니다. 믿을 수 없을 정도로 추운 하이킹을 마친 이른 아침, 나는 길을 나섰습니다. 해가 떠오르면서, 길게 드리워진 그림자와 역광을 받은 얼어붙은 눈 결정들이 멀리서 반짝이며 내 눈길을 사로잡았습니다. 너무 추워서 손이 달라붙지 않도록 삼각대 다리를 덕트 테이프로 감아야 했습니다. 아드레날린이 솟구쳤고, 해가 눈 결정을 녹이기 전까지 단 몇 분의 시간만 있다는 것을 알고 있었습니다. 순수함의 그림자 배열이 이 사진을 완성했습니다. 너무 조용해서 제 심장 소리가 들릴 정도였습니다.
