Silica Zanden

The aerial view of Hill Inlet blew me away—those swirling tidal patterns in the Queensland sands are unlike any photo I’ve seen before. Even at 1,000 feet, the detail of the sandbanks shifting with the current stayed crisp and mesmerizing.

Climbing to 1,000 feet really makes all the difference—seeing the tidal currents carve those swirls into the sand from above is something else entirely. I spent a solid ten minutes just staring as the water shifted the patterns beneath us, and it felt like the landscape was breathing.

The way the tidal sands swirl and blend into those pale aqua pools from above is genuinely mesmerizing—we must have circled the inlet four times just to watch the light shift across the sandbars. Easily the most memorable stop of our entire trip.
