The sheer, raw beauty of Yosemite never ceases to amaze me, and winter is my favorite time to photograph her. Just before dusk, I set up on the icy banks and waited for the sun to play out her last rays. It was freezing, and with numb fingers I shot off a series of frames. Just as I was ready to pack up, a final burst of sun illuminated the distant cliffs and the sky colored to a deep rosy hue - I knew this was going to be a shot worth waiting for! The delicate cloak of ice over the scene, and the faint mist suspended through the valley gives this image an almost ethereal quality, and I was delighted with the final result.
