Shooting in the dead of winter is always a challenge, but very rewarding. It was one of the best snowfalls Yosemite had seen in years and I knew I needed to get up there. On this particular day, one of my best mates and I had gotten up at four in the morning to head out. We had to brave minus twenty degrees, freezing snow and whipping winds. Along the way, we stumbled upon this incredible scene – a total surprise. That’s the amazing thing about landscape photography – if you put yourself out there enough, sometimes things will just present themselves. We could not go any further without getting this shot. The majestic cliffs, the towering frosted trees, and the intense waterfalls in the background – taking in this scene I was overwhelmed with excitement. All around us, a misty snow continued to fall and the faint sound of the moving river completed a total winter wonderland.
