이곳은 마치 다른 세계와 같았습니다. 유타의 아주 외딴 지역에서, 나는 고립된 Kodachrome Basin을 지나 밤을 보냈습니다. 이른 아침에 출발하여 마른 강바닥을 따라 1마일 이상 걸었습니다. 이곳은 지도에 없어서, 나는 하얀 모노리스(monolith)를 찾기 위해 눈을 크게 떴습니다. 멀리서 계곡에 묻힌 눈처럼 보이는 것을 발견했습니다. 조심스럽게 걸어 들어갔습니다. 그렇게 연약하고 독특한 환경에 둘러싸여 보호받는 것이 특권처럼 느껴졌습니다. 낮은 아침 빛이 사진을 부드럽게 해주는 동안 나는 서둘러 촬영했습니다. 많은 추상적인 각도가 제시되었지만, 나는 이 각도를 갤러리를 위해 선택했습니다.
Getting to the hoodoos at sunrise meant a long, dusty drive through the Kodachrome Basin, but the towering formations were worth every mile. The silence out there was almost physical, and those hoodoos glowing in the first light made the early start totally worth it. Even the remote camping felt safe and straightforward once I followed the directions, and the solitude was the best part.
The drive through Kodachrome Basin felt endless, but the payoff was worth every mile of dirt road. I camped nearby and caught the hoodoos at first light, and the silence there was so total it almost felt physical.
