This proud sandstone soldier stands on the most easterly point of Australia at beautiful Byron Bay. After an exhausting day shooting the area, I trekked up to the lighthouse for some solace. I chose the leading fence line to frame this powerful image, and as dawn arrived, the synchronicity of nature painted the scene before my eyes.
The light actually casts a gorgeous striped shadow across the grass when the sun hits it just right—I set mine up on my desk and catch myself staring. The view from the top after that climb is unreal, and the print captures that golden late-afternoon light perfectly. You can practically feel the sea breeze looking at it.
The sandstone texture is so crisp you can almost feel the sea breeze against it. I've framed it next to my window and it genuinely brings a bit of Byron Bay calm into the room every morning.
