Standing at the base of these towering, narrow falls in Maui, I felt completely humbled by their scale — like an ant beneath the immense face of the mountain. I began with a few vertical frames to capture the full height of the waterfall, but something told me there was more to find.
After pausing for a moment to take in the scene, I noticed the intricate patterns forming at the base of the falls — where mist and motion collided in a mesmerizing rhythm. Switching to a 180mm lens, I focused tightly on the cascading spray, isolating its delicate flow. A long exposure transformed the water into a painterly veil of light and texture.
When I first saw the transparency at the lab, I knew the risk had paid off. The gentle mountain mist seemed to pour from the print itself, filling the room with the same calm I’d felt that day. Sacred Falls is a quiet meditation on nature’s beauty — powerful yet serene, eternal yet fleeting.
