Blue Mountains National Park, Australia
I spent a few days hiking around the trails of the Blue Mountains and came across this delicate waterfall cascading into a perfect, shallow pool. I chose a vertical composition for strength; I wanted to feature the colored rocks in the foreground. Although the stream was only a trickle, it highlighted the image I wanted to portray, and completed the frame.
The sound of that waterfall hitting the pool was pure meditation after a long morning hike. The water is crystal clear and the perfect depth for cooling your feet without any fear of slipping.
That shallow pool is dangerously inviting after a long hike—I sat there for almost an hour just listening to the water. The way the light hit the cascade around 3pm made the whole scene look unreal. Easily the highlight of my Blue Mountains trip.
The way the waterfall fans out just before it hits the pool is mesmerizing—I sat there for a good twenty minutes watching the light catch the spray. Even with a few other hikers around, it felt completely my own.
