As a photographer, I often find myself at odds with the vacationers and tourists. They hope for perfect weather, and I hope for the opposite–Mother Nature giving me something to work with, so I can capture her drama. After days of bland, sunny skies, I was relieved to see the clouds coming in, giving me exactly what I was chasing. Having shot many docks in my career, saying that they are a fascination would be an understatement at this point. Each one is unique and sparks the imagination with an entry point into the endless power of the ocean. Setting up my gear, the only noise was the relaxing and rhythmic crashing of the waves. I live for moments like this, when the sun and the clouds play perfectly behind my subject. I could not have orchestrated that morning any better and just one shot was all I needed to freeze that moment in time.
