Seven Sacred Pools is the junction where fresh water from the mountain rivers meets the ocean. It is such an incredibly special place, I wanted to ensure I captured the true mood of the location. During the day it is a popular swimming spot but at sunrise and sunset, devoid of the crowds and the noise, it transforms entirely. I had a lot to concentrate on, as I was observing the different forms of the waves as they met, as well as the changing bands of cloud and color on the horizon. The sun illuminated the textures of the rocks and the opposing wave patterns draw the eye into the centre of the shot. By using a vertical composition I knew I would add to the strength of this already powerful image.
