秋がテネシーに冬の訪れを告げる頃、気温は氷点下を大きく下回るようになりました。グレート・スモーキー山脈の谷や峰は常に霧に包まれ、撮影には極めて困難な状況でしたが、それでも私がどうしても捉えたかったのは、あの古典的な重なり合う山並みでした。日の出の撮影を5回試みましたが、すべて霧に阻まれ、ほとんど諦めかけていました。6回目の朝、凍えるような暗闇の中で夜明けを待っていると、夜明けの最初の兆しが、運が向いてきたことを教えてくれました！夜明けが地平線にほんのりと赤い輝きを投げかけ、遠くの山々の峰々が姿を現し、地平線に浮かび上がりました。手前のシルエットになったトウヒの木々が写真に遠近感を与え、自然の力強さと繊細さを完璧に伝えています。
The cold really came through in this one—those freezing temperatures and the fog clinging to the peaks made me feel like I was standing right there in the Smokies. I keep going back to the part where the valleys stay hidden, it's hauntingly beautiful.
The fog rolling over those peaks looked exactly like the photos — thick and moody, turning the whole valley into a gray dreamscape. I’ve been chasing that view for years, and this captured it better than I hoped.
