ある夏の夜、ベランダから地平線を眺めていると、遠くで大規模な雷雨が発生しているのが見えました。時間との必死の戦いの中、私はケアンズのすぐ裏手にあるコッパーロードダムの展望台へ急ぎました。嵐が迫る中、完全に本能に従って、一本のフィルムを撮り終えました。困難な状況のため、露出は推測するしかありませんでした。その結果できた画像に私は驚かされました——まさに自然の怒りを描いた肖像です。
The lightning capture is so crisp you can almost hear the thunder rolling, and it perfectly froze that frantic dash to the lookout in time. I've stared at the dark horizon in this print for days and still find new forks in the storm.
Watching this storm build from my verandah and then seeing the final framed print on my wall feels like owning the exact moment I was too slow to photograph myself. The detail in the cloud layers and the way the lightning cuts across the dark sky is so sharp it almost looks like it's moving.
